Pet Photography – Pets Haven Animal Shelter

I spent a day volunteering at Pets Haven Pro Life Animal Shelter in Woodend. Pets Haven is a facility that re-homes orphan cats, kittens, dogs and puppies who would otherwise have no future. They rescue animals from death row pounds and from puppy farms to keep at their shelter while they wait to be adopted into a new home.

I loved being able to help out, but came home feeling very sad about the dogs in there waiting to find a special home.  If I could I would take them all!  Given the torturous background of which these dogs have been rescued from, especially that of the puppy farms, they are amazingly affectionate and loving toward people.  I had no idea puppy farms existed until I came to Australia and unfortunately they are thriving here.  The condition of these poor dogs kept purely for breeding is absolutely horrific and thanks to Pets Haven some of them get a second chance at life.

Here are some photos I took of the a few of the dogs currently needing new homes.  These dogs are all so gentle and loving and just want to be loved. If you can help out in any way please get in touch with Pets Haven.  If your looking for a new pet don’t buy from the pet stores, buy direct from a reputable breeder or get a rescue animal, they will be so grateful for it. This wee girl really stole my heart! She may look quirky (that under bite gives her so much character) but she is just so lovely and so affectionate and just climbed all over me trying to snuggle. Don’t ya just love that curly piglet tail… awww I miss her already!

Despite the bad reputation that many Rottweilers have, this guy was seriously the biggest softy ever! Such a big teddy bear and just a big sook, another one who loves the cuddles.

This special boy was rescued from a puppy farm just a matter of days ago and already in his time spent with Trish (his rescuer and the owner of Pets Haven) he has been transformed into a loving, trusting dog. He is yet to visit the groomer in these shots, but I was with Trish when she shaved his coat off, he was very badly matted right to the skin.  Him and all the other dogs waiting for adoption at Pets Haven will all make wonderful pets and great companions.  I was really happy to see a dog get adopted while I was there.  Thanks Pets Haven you guys do such great work!
